Beach Garden Organic Kitchen
Beautiful setting, exceptionally tasting food, freshly pressed seasonal juices and a small boutique integrated in the space. What more could you want from a restaurant? It has undergone a recent renovation bringing in two new international chefs who not only excel at integrating various flavours and spices into the food, but also create works of art in terms of food presentation.
Beach Garden Organic Kitchen is a tropical inspired location which sets a beautiful contrast to the busy Batu Bolong street of Canggu. As you enter, there is a wide open space with a variety of tables scattered around. Pick amongst wooden benches, sofas, squared tables and wooden counters to enjoy your food in this laid back jungle-like hub. In front of the entrance you will find the bar, busy blending freshly pressed juices and on the right hand side of the restaurant is a small boutique where you can find a variety of things from organic beauty products to candles, room diffusers, super foods and home-made kombucha and water based kefir. Expect to find surfers, yogis and health gurus during your visit, as the beauty of this place is that it caters for absolutely everyone.
BG is the only spot in Bali to locally source the majority of their products. Every single ingredient on the menu is 100% organic, free range and ethically sustained and because of this, you will only find seasonal produce so expect the menu to undergo changes from time to time. Healthy, comfort food is what makes the menu. Even when it comes down to sweeteners they replace your sugars and syrups with natural, coconut palm syrup. The breakfast is well thought up, with an array of different dishes. The Exotic Porridge has the addition of masala chai, cinnamon and dates which add a natural, sweet taste to the dish. Another breakfast option is the Papaya and Feta Toast, a unique combination of sweet and savoury flavours and the Açai Bowl is unique to the restaurant, as they are the only spot in Bali to source their açai from a local supplier. The theme of sweet and savoury continues into the main menu, with the Crispy Duck Bao Bun as a starter served with a sweet plumb sauce. Opt for a fresh, light lunch with BG’s variety of salads and cold soups or you can chose something heartier such as the Beef Ragu Penne made with tomato sauce and beef broth, striploin, basil and parmesan. Vegans are also catered for, with a vegan parmesan base for the Pesto Tagliatelle or the Lentil Bolognese. As for mains, there is a wide variety of western and asian cuisine; must tries are the Toban Yaki fish & Sweet Miso Sauce, Octopus Black Rice Risotto, Jackfruit Curry for an Indonesian special and the Australian grass-fed Organic Striploin Steak infused in a chimichurri garnish.
The drinks menu is almost as extensive as the food. Combined with In The Raw, BG makes organic cold pressed juices and water based kefirs which are incredibly flavoursome and unique to this location; the lychee kefir would become my weekly ritual if money grew on trees. All of the juices are extremely good for you thanks to the addition of celery, turmeric and ginger. The Jamu Dream is extremely high in antioxidants and vitamin c thanks to the tangerine, ginger, turmeric, coconut and honey - do you think you could hack it? A part from your teas and coffees, health shots are also part of the drinks list. Although a good cocktail list is hard to find in Bali, BG certainly has it - select amongst the classic G&T’s or Margaritas, or maybe venture out of your comfort zone and try something more exotic such as the Kombucha Martini or the Coconut Mango Daiquiri.
