Looking to taste one of London's most interesting fusion cuisine? Then you must try the Palomar, a restaurant that will open you eyes to an interesting mix of Jerusalem's modern day cuisine with a little influence of Spain, North Africa and the Levant.
Situated in the heart of Soho just moments from the Piccadilly tube station, you will find the Palomar in 34 Rupert Street.
As you enter the venue, there are two sections: the first being the seated bar/kitchen area with 16 seats where you can watch the chefs at work creating this beautifully presented dishes right in front of you. Here the vibe is more casual, for a quick bite to eat during your lunch break. Further down the restaurant you will reach a larger room with a more intimate setting and a gorgeous interior decor. The dark oak walls combined to the dark blue leather banquette seating creates the perfect space for a meal.
The food is exquisite, I would suggest taking two or three main dishes to share with two sides. We ordered a selection from the oceans and rivers section on the menu with some additional sides. Our choices included: Moroccan Mussels in Spicy rose harissa broth [£10.50], Octo Hummus Chickpea msabacha & aubergine [£13.80], Seared Scallops, Corn, new potatoes & bacon [£14.50] and our sides were the Polenta Mushrooms, asparagus & truffle [£9.80] and Grilled Artichokes.
Each and every dish was a piece of art, the way it was presented, the selection of garnishes - It is obvious that a lot of thought process went behind the creation of the menu. The dishes were bursting with flavour and spices. My favourite was probably the Octo Hummus, as it was a play on different textures, flavours and garnishes in one dish.
Other interesting dishes include the Pork Belly Siske Celeriac, carrot & apricots [£15.50], Shakshukit Beef, lamb, pistachios & pine nuts [£12.50] or the Beetroot, Goat's cheese, pomegranate & hazelnuts [£9.30] for a vegetarian option.
In terms of drinks I stuck to water however the Palomar has an extensive cocktail list perfect to compliment your meal. My friend ordered the Bumblebee - Beefeater Gin, Honey & Ginger Syrup, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao, Lemon Juice & Orange Bitters [£11], a delicious cocktail with a bursting citrus flavour.
Regarding the desert menu, the Palomar doesn't cease to amaze. The Choclava Chocolate Crémeux, Caramelised pecans, citrus cream & chocolate truffles [£7.5] is something that I certainly need to return to try out, but if you prefer something fruity then maybe the Malabi Coconut Pudding, Raspberry coulis, rose petal & Iranian pistachio meringue & kataifi [£7] is more to your taste!
All in all my experience at the Palomar was great, not only was the staff incredibly kind and attentive but also the food certainly exceeded all expectations.
