ORÉE
I went for lunch in this recently opened bakery on high street Kensington. It always seems like a challenge to eat healthy food in a bakery/patisserie but here at Orée anything is possible. Although you enter into a world of indulgent cakes and viennoiserie pastries you can rest assured that you will also find numerous healthy alternatives for a perfect quick weekday lunch. With three venues located on the King’s Road, Kenisngton High Street and the Fulham Road, Oree conquers west London with their breath taking selection of breads and patisserie.

Of French origins, Laurent d’Orey, the founder of the venue brings to the UK the authentic taste of French patisserie and boulangerie. Whether you are looking for warm pain au chocolats, a selection of fine patisserie, freshly baked breads or a simple take away coffee then this is the place to come to. All the bakers in the café are very experienced and use some interesting recipes to create unique and innovative cakes and breads. My personal favourite is the Escargots aux Pistaches, a treat to have for breakfast alongside my cappuccino.

Although there is a have a wide selection of viennoiserie, the bread from Orée is my favourite. The bakers use 20 different flours specially imported from France to create a unique selection of breads. Most importantly, they also make healthier alternatives to the usual, sourdough bread and this is through the use of Buckwheat, Wholemeal and gluten free ingredients.
If you are in the mood to indulge yourself then I suggest you try one of their wonderful cakes, whether it is one of their small raspberry tartlets or chocolate éclairs.
As for lunch, there is both a fixed lunch menu; for a price of 10£ you have a hot soup with a selection of their daily baked bread, a quiche, a Croque Monsieur and coffee and tea. This is a very affordable option and certainly good value for the price. If you fancy something slightly healthier then you can opt for one of their salads such as Kale, Butternut Squash and Feta Salad or their Superfoods salad. What I really do recommend however is their open toast, either the Avocado & Lemon or the Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese. They are absolutely delicious and a perfect alternative to your usual light lunch sandwich.

The décor of the café is very neat and modern, which white marble tables and a beautiful light blue counter that holds the gorgeous selection of pastries. The in-house open boulangerie kitchen is a unique addition to the place, where you have a full view on the breads that are being freshly baked on site.
Next time you are having a walk around west London, if you are having a bad day or if you are planning a catch-up lunch with a mate then come to Orée and try one of life’s guilty pleasures that can really turn your day around.
